Cowboy Shooting
Greetings All
My wife has said she would like to start shooting if I could find something near by. There is a cowboy shooting club nearby and she is willing to give it a try. So the last weekend of the month we are going to give it a try. They have the correct firearms for us to borrow so that is one less hassle. The range is 25 min. motorcycle ride, and getting there is one fine ride. We are looking forward to it. Do any of you have any hints for me so I do not blow a good thing with the wife? Suggest for a first timer to cowboy shooting? Thanks |
Re: Cowboy Shooting
If you are going to borrow your firearms, try to acquire the ammo you will need ahead of time.
200 rounds of pistol/rifle, and maybe two boxes of shotgun. The costumes people wear is part of fun. Your Mrs. will learn how to use a rifle, pistol, and shotgun in timed shooting scenarios. Ear plugs, and a wide brim hat come in real handy. Bottled water, maybe a snack. The two of you will meet some interesting new people, and have fun. http://www.sassnet.com/ |

Re: Cowboy Shooting
Cowboy Action shooting is fun but expensive.
2x pistols, 1x lever action rifle (in pistol caliber) and a shotgun. Plus hat, boots, clothing, and your gun leather. You will be shelling out several hundred to thousand dollars. I used to shoot 4-5 matches a month but no longe; active military / deployed / and last two assignment locations there were no active clubs. With deployments / current world events I am more concentrated on tactical shooting now anyway. When I was involved with SASS I had a couple grand invested in guns, gear, and clothing and had a blast. Yes, SASS / cowboy shooting would be the easiest, less threatening way to get your wife into shooting (the people are great and their personalities are top notch - very non competitive / non threatening - very family oriented), but it will also be the most expensive route. FYI / SA. |
Re: Cowboy Shooting
This is a coincidence.
I bought a rifle today, and the dude next to me, filling out his paperwork tells the guy behind the counter that he's a cowboy. Nobody flinches, laughs, or smirks. I thought further explanation was necessary, but I was eavesdropping, so I didn't ask. When my paperwork was being put into the system, the guy turns to me and starts telling me about cowboy shooting. It sounds so cool! So, thanks for this thread. I never knew there was such a thing. Now I am going to have to go watch the cowboys shoot. I think your wife is going to love it! Please let us know how it goes. |
